In an effort to provide guidance, the university provides computing recommendations for the various members of the campus university. These recommendations are intended to provide minimum specifications for a successful computing experience at NUNM. 

 

Hardware 

Processor: Intel i5 (equivalent or higher; 5th generation or newer) 

Memory (RAM): 4 GB minimum; 8 GB or higher recommended 

Peripherals 

  • Headset with a microphone or earbuds with a microphone 

  • Webcam for video interaction 

  • Smartphone for taking photos or recording videos (Online Nutrition) 

Chromebooks (Chrome OS), iPads (iOS), Android devices and iPhones may not meet the minimum requirements for all coursework, and it is not recommended to use any of these as a primary device.

* Microsoft has yet to resolve overheating/battery draining issues when using the Microsoft Teams app on Macs. We recommend that Mac users use the browser-based version of Teams using the Google Chrome browser. 

 

Internet speed 

  • 2 Mbps minimum download speed 

  • 1 Mbps minimum upload speed 

You can test your internet speed at www.speedtest.net. 


For users who engage in frequent web conferencing or large file transfers, 15 Mbps download or higher and 5 Mbps upload or higher is recommended. 


Purchasing Your Computer

You are free to purchase the computer of your choice (as long it meets the minimum requirements above).


Student computer purchasing option:

  • Self-finance – credit card, debit card, check, 3rd party lease, etc.
  • Financial Aid – Contact the Office of Financial Aid at FinancialAid@nunm.edu.


Warranties, service, and support for your computer are provided by your computer’s manufacturer. Please keep this in mind as you select a computer.
